If your tires are in need of repair, you're going to begin to notice some signs when you drive or look at your tires. If your tires are in need of a repair, you need to be sure you take the time to have your tires inspected at a tire repair shop and have them replaced if necessary. Driving on tires that are not in good condition can result in damage to your vehicle, or it could also result in an accident, as your tire tread is necessary in helping to keep your vehicle on the road in all types of weather and conditions. If you aren't sure if your tires need to be repaired, read on for a few signs.
1. Low Tire Tread
If the tread on your tires is too low, you may have a more difficult time stopping and staying no the road in general. if you don't have enough tire tread, you could end up in an accident if you don't have your tires replaced. By putting a penny upside down in the treads, you can verify if your tread is low. If you can see all of Abraham Lincoln's head, you don't have enough tread. If he is partially covered or most of his head is covered in the tread, your tires are still in good shape.
2. Uneven Wear
You can check for uneven wear using the penny test as well. Check the tread pattern all the way across your tire to see where it's wearing out. If you notice an uneven wear, your tire itself could be the issue, especially if you have a broken belt in the tire, or you could have uneven wear because your tires need to be balanced and rotated. Take your vehicle to a tire repair shop to have this done for you.
3. Loud Noises As You Drive
If you are hearing loud noises as you drive your vehicle, the problem could be your tires. You may have something in your tire, the tire could be low or even flat, or there could be a broken belt in the tire. You should have your tire inspected at a repair shop to have the tire repaired or replaced if necessary. A hole in the tire can usually be filled, but a broken belt may require a replacement tire. If you have a gash in your tire, it should also be replaced, as it won't be able to be filled the way a nail hole would be.
If your tires are damaged or they are not in good condition, you should have them inspected and repaired or replaced as needed. Have your tires rotated and balanced every 3,000-5,000 miles.
